Simon Henwood was born in Portsmouth, England in 1965.
He lives and works in London.
For 15 years his paintings and works on paper have been exhibited in the New York MoMA
as well as the UCLA Hammer Museum and the Berlin Kunst-Werke.
After publishing a dozen of children's books, created two magazines ('purr' and 'alice'), directed the "blue-eyed dog" music label,
and made numerous music videos and animation films, this multi-talented artist will show us in early 2010 part of his universe,
or rather his universes, through a new series of works on paper.
As far as he can remember, Simon Henwood has always painted. For Roísín Murphy or Devendra Banhart,
music videos allow him to express his directing talents: "music videos are an excellent mean of developing ideas and to get quickly get some results,"
he stated in a recent interview.
Recently in London he participated in Rifflemaker in the Voo-Doo show
which included Jean-Michel Basquiat, Francis Bacon and Hans Bellmer.
A monography retracing his last 20 years of work, "Paintings and Films 1988-2008" by Charlotte Mullins,
has also just been published by Stephane Simoens.
