Born in 1979 in Metz, France, Justin Morin lives and works in Berlin.
Dominated by the theme of disenchantment, the work of Justin Morin blooms through media as diverse as collage, embroidery, ceramics or more recently, painting. Fascinated by light effect, the artist unfolds a unabashedly romantic universe where hope and naïveté collide with disappearanceand doubt.
Falling bodies (la Chute), dusky landscapes (Dripping Dream) or broken porcelain heart (Sweethurts) write an open score book, refusing to settle into the figurative/abstract dialectics. Besides his activities as an artist, Justin Morin is also curator, proposing through his Galerie Justin Morin project a selection of artists with eclectic universes. By putting forward his own artistic family, the artist renders the diversity of his references explicit, and replaces the notion of bond, so dear to his embroidered portraits, at the center of his discourse. An intricate sticker work, "les Météorites" is made of hundreds of cut triangles. Once combined, these ligns make an abstract figure, revealing a spectral presence. The holographic surfaces he uses constantly transform the composition, making it as enigmatic as it is fascinating. Of abstract composition, the "Dripping Dream" series references the famous "The Wonderer Above The Sea Of Fog" painting by Caspar David Friedrich.
Behind the apparent darkness of these drippings comes an infinite landscape where mountains seem to emerge from a dense smog. But if they seem monochromatic, these paper paintings are hiding stunning light prisms, who surge unexpectedly. These shards of light are made even more precious by their ephemeral nature, and can disappear as quickly as they appeared. Between jolts of hope and disillusion,
